Due to huge demand, four more screenings of Dartmoor Calling have been announced. Further showings across the country are also being discussed, as hundreds of people look to book tickets. Created as a collaboration between Clapham Film Unit, the Dartmoor Preservation Association, The Stars are for Everyone, The Lost Giants and Right to Roam, this documentary sets out to showcase the stories of the people fighting to save Dartmoor, in the places where they made a stand. The vision of Director, Charlotte Bill, has been to gather a broad range of people, from farmers to activists, storytellers to campaigners, and everything in-between. What weaves the stories of these people together is their love for Dartmoor, and their desire to take care of this special landscape.

Interviews have been collected by both Charlotte and a team of dedicated volunteers, who received special training in interviewing and the collection of oral stories. Hundreds of hours of film was then knitted together into a fascinating narrative, which takes in valleys saved from being flooded, moorland being managed for biodiversity and narrow lanes where thousands of people marched to raise Old Crockern.

The film will be premiered at the Exeter Phoenix on the 24th of January, and tickets for this screening sold out almost immediately. Guests will include many people who starred in the film and the evening will begin with a live performance from Kimwei McCarthy, who created some of the soundtrack for the film. Three more screenings, in Totnes, Ashburton and Okehampton have also sold out, but the additional dates below have been released to help meet extraordinary demand.

We hope that everyone who sees Dartmoor Calling will not only share a sense of pride in what has been achieved so far by people who love Dartmoor, but also be inspired to ask questions, such as ‘what more can be done?’ and ‘how do we achieve these goals together?’ Informal Q&A sessions will accompany each of the screenings, allowing guests to speak to various people who feature in the film, including representatives from the DPA, The Stars are For Everyone and Moor Trees. Viewing activism for Dartmoor as very much a current movement, while reflecting on the influence of a rich history of campaigning for this landscape, Dartmoor Calling is simultaneously a celebration of important work and a rallying point for the next great achievements.
