This is a positive additional step in our commitment to engaging with and collaborating with the Dartmoor community in order to work together to promote best practice and safe access for everyone out enjoying this unique landscape.

The CoWorking space is located in Buckfastleigh, Devon, just on the edge of Dartmoor. They offer a large open-plan CoWorking space which is naturally lit and has the most amazing river views spanning the full elevation of the studio. The space is designed to provide everything needed from the off, from comfortable workstations, super-fast broadband, meeting rooms and kitchen facilities, through to networking opportunities, monthly lunch and learns, CoWalks, CoSwims, CoHikes, BBQs and socials, all in wild and beautiful Devon.

Spurred on by wanting to create a place where health and wellness meet productivity, CoWorking Devon wanted to build a safe space for people to spend time and generate the focus needed to run their business successfully, surrounded by the right people. They run regular community events, from CoWalks and CoHikes on Dartmoor to invigorating CoSwims in the River Dart, BBQs and Friday Socials. There’s something for everyone in their online events diary.

Why adopt our 3Ps guidance?

We’re delighted that everyone joining the upcoming CoHiking and CoSwimming events will be supported by gaining knowledge of our 3Ps guidance. This guidance around having a wild pee, poo and period is designed to support both seasoned walkers and those new to exploring Dartmoor for extended lengths of time. Out aim is to empower everyone to deal with natural bodily functions in an ethical and confident manner, meaning that the moor remains unspoilt and that visitors feel happy to spend entire days out exploring and getting to know this special landscape.

Top Tips for Wild Toileting

Before heading out, it’s always best to use public toilets if they are available. We are advising visitors to take a pit stop at nearby facilities, even if it means purchasing a snack or drink to gain access. Always carry some spare change for these occasions.

Track and plan for your period. Bring a resealable pack or tub with your preferred sanitary items, tissues, hand sanitiser, pain killers, extra water and something nutritious. Discussing the need for bathroom breaks beforehand can ease anxiety and embarrassment. Open conversations with excursion leaders and friends about what to do when nature calls will make the experience less daunting for everyone when the inevitable happens.

Communication and privacy

When the need arises, communication is key. Visitors should always inform their trip leaders about where they are heading. For added safety and privacy, take a buddy along to guard the area. Scout for a secluded spot away from public paths. If you’re opting for a seated position, squatting can be more comfortable and efficient. Always ensure your clothing is adjusted appropriately to avoid any mishaps.

Cleaning Up

Consider your preferred method of wiping ahead of time. For short excursions, a simple shake may suffice, but for longer adventures, pack tissues or wet wipes and remember to take them home with you or dispose of them properly once you reach a bin. A tub or sealable pack can be handy for storing used wipes. For a more sustainable option, bring a reusable cloth that can be washed at home.
