Community Engagement Ranger, Kat Koster-Shadbolt, has been nominated in the ‘New Perspectives’ category of the Campaign for National Parks Protector Awards 2023/2024. ‘Girls Do Dartmoor’ has been recognized for the support it provides to young women, who may otherwise be missing out on the many mental and physical heath benefits of accessing nature.

As leader of Youth Rangers, Kat has been facilitating a program of wonderful opportunities, where young people have the chance to explore Dartmoor and spend their first night camping under the stars. With ‘Girls Do Dartmoor’ there has been a particular focus on enabling, educating and empowering young women. Part of this has been formulation of the ‘3Ps’ resources, which offer accessible information to how to prepare for going to the toilet and having your period in the wild.

The Campaign for National Parks Protector Awards will be held on Wednesday the 11th of December. We look forward to attending the ceremony and celebrating all the amazing work done by groups and individuals over the last year.
