Local Hiker Tackles Yorkshire Peaks to Support Moor Boots

April 21, 2026 |

Huge thanks to Samantha Pertherick, who has just completed a Yorkshire 2 Peaks challenge to raise money for our Moor Boots access grant scheme. This year, the DPA have supported over 200 young people training for Ten Tors and the Jubilee Challenge by providing small grants to fund the purchase of sturdy boots and effective waterproof clothing, which can make all the difference in the challenging weather and terrain of Dartmoor.

Samantha said: ‘Well guys sadly I didn’t quite conquer all 3 Yorkshire peaks. But I did manage 2 of them which I’m still really proud of. I did however manage hiking 17+ miles and climbing 3,767ft. Something happened to my knee on the way down Whernside and to continue with the storm Dave fast approaching would have been dangerous so I decided to call my mission off. Gutting to say I didn’t finish this but in hindsight I’m glad I listened as I’m not sure I would have managed any more decent.

‘I want to thankyou all for all your amazing donations raised for Dartmoor Preservation Moor Boots and I really do hope it goes on to help youngsters have the right equipment and to spark the love of the great outdoors.’

So far, Samantha has raised an impressive £406, and donations are still very much appreciated. Moor Boots makes a huge impact on the lives of financially disadvantaged young people, who find themselves without access to the basic equipment needed to take part in outdoor activities, such as Ten Tors and Duke of Edinburgh awards. Funds raised from Samantha’s hike will go towards purchasing walking boots, waterproof trousers and more for the next generation of Dartmoor explorers.
