11th January 2024 –

The legal right to backpack camp on Dartmoor has once more been challenged, after a Supreme Court appeal to last year’s unanimous decision was granted yesterday.

This is bitterly frustrating. That the ruling of three senior High Court judges and collective voice of hundreds of thousands of citizens can be threatened by one wealthy landowner is terrible. But we are still committed to protect backpack camping and the fight to keep Dartmoor truly wild and free for the many people who love it.

Dartmoor National Park Authority has another battle ahead. Thanks to the huge influx of support for our crowdfunder, we have a significant amount of money ringfenced for legal fees. This latest appeal could become even more costly than we first imagined. If you are in a position to donate and share, every penny will help in the continued effort to protect access rights on Dartmoor.

We will keep you updated as we learn more.
